scheduler handling Report errors

We have scheduled reports which are emailed, and want to not send them out if data is invalid. How can I trap error conditions?
Errors are like timeouts, or server connection problems, no data found, report file missing. The report maybe from an analyzer or prpt or? so I am hoping to trap it in the scheduler.
