MySQL works in Metadata Editor but not in console

Hi, I've setup a connection on my local install metadata editor and it works. I've setup the same connection in the console, and it fails with error ConnectionServiceImpl.ERROR_0009 - Connection to database [dbname] failed.

The MySQL database is hosted.

Any thoughts?
