Create Population Density Map using Latitude/Longitude

I want to create a population density map based on a set of latitudes and longitudes. I know that this is easier than I am making this out in my head.

Basically have something like a Google map of an area and dots that displayed for each latitude/longitude.

How to I go about creating something like this?
