Generating large number of different reports by script

On my Pentaho CE 7.1 I often need to generate large number of reports (*.prpt) with different attributes.
For example, I have a report that shows data for a day, and I need to generate those reports for each day since September 2017.
Is there any way how create a script, that would execute those *.prpt files one by one for each day since September 2017 until now?
I have been checking API on official Pentaho documentation, but it does not seem to be such option there. Perhaps some kind of hack, like sending parameters in URL or so?

Hello, I am doing some changes in texts of pentaho-server 7.1 (CE, if that matters)

BUT I am still getting strange behaviour.

For example:
I wanted to change button text of "Browse Files" button in PUC. However on some PCs it is changed and on some is not.
I wanted to get rid of "Run in Background" button in report generation dialogue. But even if I have commented it in "pentaho-server/tomcat/webapps/pentaho/mantle/browser/js/browser.fileButtons.js" file, but even after I have restarted pentaho-server several times, the button is still there.

So I would like to ask, if there is some tomcat or other cache that I need to refresh/delete to make such things happen.

I am sorry if its lame question, but I am not very skilled in web apps.

Does the BA Server include PDI?

Since the new Vantara Community site to me is one of the most terrible and unusable sites ever, I fail to find a clear overview of what is in the BA Server package. So far I have been using only PDI, but now I want to evaluate and use the full package. Is it then enough to just get the BA Server download, or should I get both the BA Server and PDI downloads?

Unable to start PDI CE 7.1 in windows 8.1

Hi,

I'm trying to use PDI CE 7.1 but the spoon is not starting. I'm using windows 8.1 and Java 1.8 64-bit also I have set JAVA_HOME and JRE_HOME in system variables.
I'm not getting any errors or java exceptions but the spoon UI is not coming up

Following is the configuration

Pentaho 7.1 - remove "Run in background" button

Hello.

For my implementation of Pentaho 7.1 CE, I need to get rid of this "Run in background" button: https://ibb.co/kQgsVo



But it does not allow me to do so. I was following https://jira.pentaho.com/browse/BISERVER-10883 but even if I deleted part:

I have even tried to delete "~/pentaho-server/tomcat/work/Catalina/localhost/pentaho/" directory, but still no change.

Now I am not sure if I am editing wrong file, or failing at refreshing tomcat content. If anybody has a hint for me, i would really appreciate it. Thak you.

Random login problem integrated Microsoft Active Directory

Hello,

We have a Pentaho environment integrated with Microsoft Active Directory, in which, randomly the login does not work, without displaying any error message, it only redirects to the login screen. This behavior was reproduced in different browsers, and from different PCs.

In the log files catalina.out and pentaho.log with basic log level no error is recorded. In DEBUG log level, we have isolated the following fragment that corresponds to the moment in which the error occurs:

Can't embed CDE dashboard into angular web app

I am on BA Server 8.1 community version

Trying below code to embed dashboard.

Reporting bug on second print

Hi to all,
there's a strange bug in the latest BA-SERVER platform (tested in 7.1 and 8.1)

Step to reproduce:
- publish a report with parameter and set the default output type as Excel (or even others file type output "application/rtf", "application/vnd.ms-excel", "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet", "text/csv", "mime-message/text/html")
- access the ba-server but not with localhost:8080 so for example 10.232.1.49:8080/pentaho
- open the report and set the parameter without touching output format
- click view report for downloading the xls file
- change the parameter and click view report again
Result is white page and no file downloaded, you have to refresh the page to start back from pentaho home.

Strangely enough if you access pentaho through localhost it works with the latest version of firefox but not with chrome.
If you change the output type to a non-file output (so maybe html paginated) and you click view report, than you change back to excel and view report it works all the time.

The problem is totally in the html/js page, because the server does not log anything, you can clearly see that the report is acquired through some GET and a final POST that start the file download.
In the second run the report is correctly called, but the final POST is never sended from the client (the web page)

I think the error is on reportviewer-app.js, maybe something when is called "_isDownloadableFormat" and timeout is checked...
In BA-SERVER 6.1 everything works well, but when reportviewer-app.js were completely refactored since version 7 the problem is introduced.

Any hints for fixing this?

I am trying to update admin's password through PUC Administration area but changes have no effect after all. I am using version 8.0 and couldn't find an answer on Google for newer version but only for 3.* version.

I am able to plot data on chart.
But as my data is very large I am not able to see it properly.
Need some Zoom In - Zoom Out option in this case

Pentaho : BUG admin UI wont display users list

I replicated a pentaho installation on new virtual machines (1 Tomcat server with pentaho 5.2 and 1 postgresql 9.3, exactly the same OS...).

Everything works, we can login, work, etc... except admin UI who can get XML response of the user list, it's an empty XML list... the API URL call by UI is : https://domain.name/pentaho/api/userroledao/users
Can you help me to find the next step to resolve the problem ? Thanks

Dashboards - SqlOverJndi parameter error with MariaDB

I get an excecution error on a CDE Dashboard using a modified demo of Pentaho CE 8.1 to work with MariaBD. The sql over jndi runs ok without parameters but adding one results in an error.

It can be reproduced it by running the CDA sample test (/public/plugins-samples/CDA/cda-test).

- Pentaho 8.1 CE modified to use MySQL
- MariaDB 10.1.29
- Ubuntu 18.04 64 bits

Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this?

I notice that when I want to download the community edition of Pentaho BI server, suddenly I am forced to give my information. I and my employees don't want to do this. Also I think it's against the new GDPR law. How do I get around this nonsense?

LDAP connection timeout setting (pooling)

I'm having intermittent problems connecting to an LDAP server (an AD server). I have a PDI job scheduled to run via cron that will randomly fail to connect to the repository because of authentication failure. Here's the relevant log output from pentaho.log.

I did some TCP packet inspection using Wireshark. It appears that [sometimes] BI Server is leaving the LDAP connection open (no unbindRequest) for reuse, but Active Directory kills inactive LDAP sessions after 15min. (the MaxConnIdleTime setting) . When BI Server sends an LDAP searchRequest command without first issuing a bindRequest command there is no response from the AD server if it's a timed out connection on AD.

Is there a timeout configuration setting that can close these "pooled" LDAP connections on BI Server? Or can LDAP pooling be turned off?

I'm on version 8.0 BI Server. Just to clarify, LDAP authentication is working otherwise.

Hi,

We have to restart every day DB and Pentaho Server in order to work without issues. Issues are related to Scheduler (DB Quartz).

The error is:

Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure


The last packet successfully received from the server was 30,572,478 milliseconds ago. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 1 milliseconds ago.

Platform:
- Linux
- Pentaho8 (Server1)
- MariaDB 10.1.32 (Server2)

I have Pentaho Community 6.0 and in the administration part, the Manage Users tab is missing. I'd like to see it.
I have Pentaho synchronized with ldap, but I need to create local users. ¿Is it possible?

BI Server hanging after 100+ hits on reports!

Hi,
Our pentaho BI server hang-on after we hits 100+ reports from web application. And giving massage like"[ContainerBackgroundProcessor[StandardEngine[Catalina]]] org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoaderBase.clearReferencesThreads The web application [pentaho] appears to have started a thread named [ObservationManager] but has failed to stop it. This is very likely to create a memory leak. Stack trace of thread:
